how to avoid diabetes from young age

Do you like beans? Eat dairy or cheese? Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are good protein sources, as are beans! You have to watch portion size on beans because of carbs, but good fiber amounts. Fiber can be subtracted from total carbs, ( net carbs). Cheese, nuts, seeds, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, small servings of beets….. Talk to a diabetic nutritionist! Or go online to sites like American Diabetes Association. Talk to your insurance company…. Do they have a nurse/case manager who can work with you? They can mail materials out to you, do phone checkups, etc! Ask, ask, ask! This site has some great people that support each other, have good ideas! Good luck, and take care on the road. PS almonds, cashews, walnuts and apples make great snacks that satisfy the crunchy cravings.
I eat everything I did before. The only change I made was to watch my portions, and be very mindful of total carbs. I was diagnosed with an a1c of 11.9%. My last a1c was 6.2% and it continues to drop. I take .6 mg of Victoza once a day, You can eat fry green plantains, yuca, rice, noodles, try a veggie lasagna, look for vegetarians cooking books your be surprise. Greek, Spanish, Indian etc. good luck, Protein. Chicken, beef, fish, eggs just plan ahead. Are you overweight? Omit those foods like desserts, soda, juice, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc,  I am a truck driver and I can’t pass the physical on all kinds of meds plus I had a heart. Attack last may it’s been a long road, Make a bean salad. .i use chick peas and kidney beans..add peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes and sometimes greens like kale and spinach..you can make it and put it in Tupperware.
When I was first diagnosed I ate EVERYTHING even “bad stuff” BUT!!!!!…… I LITTERLY cut all portions in half (what I would normally eat) and add a fist sized salad or any veggies. Never had problems after that and actually lost 40 lbs in 5 months without exercising. Also I stopped drinking anything with any carbs or sugar at all (except a 6 pack on my days off work) and started making sure I always had a child portion sized snack b4 bed every night, Lots of protein such as chicken cutlets, fish, shrimps, peanut butter, avocado, yes turkey, Fresh veggies. Carrots with hummus and celery with peanut butter, Do you eat cheese? Veggie burgers? My kids like to grill black bean burgers, Every dietician has different views Amanda Faye the reasoning for only 2 eggs a week is the cholesterol levels in eggs.
You can basically eat anything you want just going to have to change the way you prepare it,  Iced tea is my favorite beverage…strong , black, and with lots of ice, Both tea and coffee are full of caffieine, not good for heart palpitions, Honestly I am. Immune to that fingerpricking thing, needles in my belly etc. Honestly doesn’t hurt anymore, most of the time. I’m not immune to the insulin weight gain tho. That’s what really hurts, Every time I think the whole immune to pain thing might just start applying to me, I do my insulin and find a spot that hurts like hell. Never fails. It’s like a reminder that I’m still human. LO,  I still don’t like the finger pricks and they still hurt. Insulin injections in my belly, doesn’t bother me at all though,  It still hurts whether it’s in my finger, belly and upper thigh area. It’s been 2 yrs and 10 months.
Sometimes the finger prick still hurts, but the injection doesn’t , My fingers do get numb!!! Must be from 12 years of testing now,  I just do the finger prick , most of the time it doesn’t hurt ,other times I say a quick “Oh S**t” LOL, I don’t care about it. It’s a very common question one who hasn’t diabetes will ask. I’ll explain it if they want to know, Thank you. 12 years ago I had 3 major heart attacks in one day. Undiagosed diabetes for 11 years was the cause. I needed a Defibulator. I didn’t know the signs. A sharp pain down the jaw, left arm pain were 2 warning signs. My A1c was 12.9 at the time. I was a mess. Today my sugar is under control. Please take good care of yourselves. Life depends on it, Thought I had mine under control but suffering from emotional and physical pain almost put me in the hospital. Stress and anxiety is bad but very bad for diabetics, Why would someone do this to themselves. There is help out there.
